FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Do I have to believe these new therapies will work for them to be effective?

A.    Absolutely not. Belief has nothing to do with their effectiveness. Many people have experienced fast relief from long-standing emotional problems when they never expected it. Very long-standing problems can be cleared up as easily as problems that have begun recently, and belief that it will happen is unnecessary.

Q.    How do they work?

A.    This kind of therapy quickly treats a wide range of psychological problems by addressing the mind/body system at the level of the person's bioenergy field, which is where the problem resides. The therapist directs the client to tap specific acupuncture meridian points while focusing their thoughts on the troublesome issue. The thinking brings up the "thought field" associated with the problem. The tapping quickly causes a change in the energy field associated with their thoughts, and the result is a release of the negative emotions and a shift to more positive thoughts. When we "tune into" a distressing "thought field", and experience the negative emotions that go with it, we are actually experiencing a disturbance in the mind/body's energy system. Thought Field Therapy eliminates the disturbance, and at the same time, allows a shift to more peaceful, positive thoughts and feelings. This approach is much quicker, less expensive, and less painful than traditional talk-therapy, alone.

Q.    What kind of problems are treated by this approach?

A.    In my practice, I have seen these energy field therapies permanently resolve many different kinds of issues:

  • Post traumatic stress disorder from things such as accidents, crime or abuse.
  • Emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias, grief and loss, love pain, jealousy.
  • Blocks to success and personal performance in actors, public speakers, athletes, singers, teachers.
  • Problems on the job that reduce satisfaction and productivity.
  • Addictive cravings and preventing relapse in recovery from addictions.
  • Unwanted habits previously unable to be changed.
  • Low self-esteem and procrastination.
  • Destructive patterns in personal relationships, parenting and families.
  • Fear of dentists and other medical treatments.
  • Dealing with chronic illness and pain.
  • Test and interview anxiety.
  • Controlling your emotions and stress during financial and legal problems
  • The list goes on.
Q.    What is the success rate for these approaches?

A.    Both Dr. Roger Callahan, the discoverer of Thought Field Therapy, and Gary Craig, the developer of Emotional Freedom Techniques, have observed 80 to 90% success rates. I have had the same experience. Of course, no approach works with all people all the time, but these results are far better than any other approach I have studied during the 20 years I have been counseling.

Q.    Do the effects last?

A.    Yes they do. Once all the aspects of a problem have been treated, the recovery is usually permanent. I have followed up with clients 6 months after treatment and have consistently found their problems have not returned.

Q.    I am really skeptical about this. I can't believe it! What if it doesn't work?

A.    You have nothing to lose. I was skeptical myself when I first heard about this. It was only after many amazing results with clients that I gained confidence that these approaches will work, almost all the time. I have been using these approaches now for four years, and many, many people have been helped. These approaches work whether you believe they will or not. If it turns out that these new approaches are not effective for a particular client, then there are more traditional approaches that probably will work. If I am totally unable to assist a client, I do not accept payment from them. You have nothing to lose by giving this a try.
